Current and Upcoming Events

Since our last Newsletter, we have had another work party on Saturday September 18th and several small mini work afternoons through the winter. The September work day enabled us to:

  • Almost finished cleaning and scrubbing the nearly 250 2 x 3 foot stainless steel trays. Replaced galvanized skins and insulation on the outside of the dryer and prepare the dryer for winter storage.
  • Re-fit the wheel casters on all of the 5 drying racks. This enable us to fit 3 - 50 tray rack into the dryer and accommodate up to 3,200 pounds at one 8 hour drying session.
  • Start work on the ‘59 Chevy Fleetside pickup truck. Paul Bibby, a Cascade high school senior, worked to ‘restore’ the truck for his senior project. “Restoration’included a new bed, body and paint with Gleaners logo on the doors, and minor mechanical work. Les Schwab has donated chrome rims and truck tires which will dramatically dress up the appearance.
  • On January 10th, the '59 Chevy truck was completed and looks great. Paul received an A for his efforts in and there is a marked difference in the appearance. Our hopes are to have the truck ready to participate in the ‘Wenatchee’s Grand Apple Blossom’ Parade in May 2005.
